IE 7 does NOT work with FTP. So you need to get the MS IE7 download blocker. If you already have IE7 installed, go to START, HELP, restore to earlier date. Look on each day to see EXACTLY when you installed IE7 then restore to just prior to that installation. BE CAREFUL, the times are in REVERSE order. GO SLOW as you decide on a restoration point. Of course, the restoration is completely reversible so if you make a mistake, no prob... just choose another restoration point and try again...
HOW TO REPAIR WINDOWS XP BEFORE DOWNLOADING THE NEW MICROSOFT INTERNET EXPLORER 7: If you have tried to download IE7 and you notice problems, the difficulty most probably lies with your Windows XP configuration. So what to do to clean up your Windows XP problems? First, run your antivirus and anti-spyware software. THEN:
Insert your Operating System CD. RESTART the computer. When you see the question “Boot from CD diskette?” hit any key.
PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THIS: In the first screen it asks if you want to install OR if you want to repair. YOU SHOULD CHOOSE install NOT repair. Then in the SECOND screen, choose REPAIR system.
Now, just sit back, relax and let it do its thing. DO NOT REMOVE the CD until after the complete installation. The computer will restart itself during the installation but DO NOT remove the CD. The repair and reinstall takes about 40 min. WARNING: you will get a scary sudden notice with a big red X mark saying the installation cannot be completed… do not be worried by this, just click OK. Why do you get this notice? Precisely because you are NOT installing, per se, you are REPAIRING.
When it finishes then double check that your firewall is still ON and go to www.microsoft.com Your CD for Windows XP contains IE-6, (until MS issues a new CD) so…
YOU WILL NEED TO DOWNLOAD SERVICE PACK 2 which is NOT included in your Operating System CD. If you are on dialup, this will take approx. 6-8 hours so do not do it before you go to sleep at night because your computer may shut off and stop the download. IMPORTANT: BEFORE YOU TRY TO DOWNLOAD IE 7, DOUBLE CHECK THAT YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE SP-2 DOWNLOAD, THEN RESTART AND REQUEST THE IE7 DOWNLOAD.
This is a nerve-wracking procedure but my Internet Options tab works perfectly now. AND I HAVE THE NEW IE-7. Hope this helps!
