Help for Baby Respiratory Problems*
BABY BREATHING DIFFICULTY
I am not a doctor. My husband and I had a floor and wall refinishing business for some years. This is where I learned about problems for the new baby placed in a room freshly decorated by its loving parents, who do not realize the dangers to the newborn infant which are occasioned by sanding and stripping walls and refinishing with paints and polyeurathanes.
Here is my advice to parents-to-be: SIMPLY CLEAN THE FLOOR AND WALLS OF THE BABY'S ROOM with plain soap and water. Do not, under any circumstances, sand or strip floors and/or walls. DO NOT paint or put any type of finish on any floor or furniture in the baby's room.
If you are going to use A/C or heat in the baby's room, get the ducts cleaned WELL AHEAD OF THE BABY'S arrival. The A/C ducts are notorious for dirt accumulation. You will need a licensed professional to do this job for you. Be sure to change the filters twice a month after the baby arrives.
You see, new parents of course want to show the world that their baby has the most beautiful room ever, but this often harms the baby due to the ingredients in the paints and finishes. Sand from a wood floor resanding can remain in the air for perhaps two weeks. IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER that your A/C and heating system MUST BE CLEANED PRIOR TO BRINGING THE NEW BABY HOME. The ducts often have a lot of dirt in them and when you run the A/C or the heat, the dirt flies in the air. Better for you also and for all your other children if you heed this advice and GET THE DUCTS CLEANED ASAP.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES permit any worker or any work to be done in the baby's room once the baby comes home from the hospital. TOO BAD if baby's room is not up to the latest standards of "chic". Better for baby to be breathing well than for parents to be showing off their sense of "style".
If you are thinking to do the remodeling prior to the birth of the baby, I will caution you with this advice: WE NEVER ACCEPTED A CONTRACT TO REMODEL OR REFINISH ANY FLOORS OR WALLS IF THE WOMAN OF THE HOME WAS PREGNANT. Mom does not need to be breathing all those bad things either. Baby is breathing what mom breathes while baby is still inside mommy.
NEVER PERMIT ANYONE TO SMOKE INSIDE THE HOME.
NEVER PERMIT ANYONE TO SHAKE YOUR BABY. NOT EVEN FOR A MOMENT. SHAKING A BABY CAN CAUSE BRAIN DAMAGE AND DEATH.
