Recipe Copyrights: what is a recipe copyright and how to get one
At the time of this writing November 11, 2005, there is only ONE
registered copyright
for a cheesecake recipe and that is for a sugar-free cheesecake. I cannot
reproduce that particular recipe without the written consent of the owner,
a Ms. Rhona Ferguson.
If you thought someone has a registered copyright on the recipe for Black Forest
Cheesecake for example, you would be wrong. THERE IS HOWEVER A VALID US COPYRIGHT however
which is registered on
a Black Forest CAKE recipe. A
person or company can own a registered copyright on an entire cookbook. Some people
who own a registered copyright on an entire cookbook ALSO own registered copyrights on
individual recipes in the collection.
If you are under the "impression" that you "have or had a copyright on a
recipe", kindly direct your inquiries to the US Copyright Office to verify
your claim; please do not contact me, because I am very well able to search the US Copyright Office records
online and I am not in the mood for pretended owners of registered copyrights.
If you believe you are the present legal owner of a US copyrighted recipe and
you notice that I included your "copyrighted recipe" in my online
collection, kindly retain a copyright attorney to assist you in the assertion of
your rights. I did graduate from Law School, but I do not practice
