Here are our simple guidelines to help you achieve business success:

First, you must define your goals.  What do you want to achieve with your business?  If you say: "Money!" yes, money is a valid goal, but a successful business usually has the goal of bettering people's lives.  Find a business which IMPROVES the quality of people's lives and your products will sell.

 

Second, you must be persistent and work almost tirelessly at building your business, particularly for the first two years.  Success may seem to come "overnight" to a few lucky folks, but most people have to spend from 3 or 4 hours per day and some even up to 14 hours a day, 7 days a week, building their business.  The key is to spend as much time as you can spare, working every day, 7 days a week.  The more time you put in will determine how quickly you can make money with your business.

Third: Remember to treat your customers like "family".  If you send them an email, make it personalized.  When a customer contacts you, be certain that customer is treated with respect and calm consideration of the customer's requests and point of view.  Let your customers know that you understand their views.  Thank them if they point out something wrong with your business.  YOU NEED TO KNOW WHAT IS WRONG, SO YOU CAN FIX IT.  Complaints from customers are as valuable to you as their praise.  Let them know this. Never raise your voice to a customer, even if the customer raises his/her voice to you.  Remain calm; THANK the customer for their insight and tell them you APPRECIATE that they took the time to contact you and that you will take their point seriously and try to find the best solution for them.

For example, I have an eBay store with 100% customer satisfaction rating.  How did I achieve this? When a customer raises the LEAST dissatisfaction with a product they bought from me, I immediately give them their money back.  Remember, only a FEW of your customers will be unhappy.  BUT those few can contact 100 friends via email to complain about they way they were treated by your business.  Word does still get around, and more now due to the internet.  Let your customers know that you want "happy customers".  This is a phrase I like to use.  I tell them I want "happy, satisfied customers".  The result for my eBay business is that when such a customer sends in his feedback, it is POSITIVE. 

When you answer your business phone, first clearly say the NAME OF YOUR BUSINESS, then say: "How may I help you?"  Teach any employee to ALWAYS answer your business phone in this manner. 

Four: The color BLUE denotes trustworthiness to people.  Be sure to use a lot of the color BLUE in your ad campaigns, business cards, etc.  The favorite color of most people is BLUE.  Use it to your advantage in your business.
